The woman, popularly known and called 'Mummy', by anyone who interacts with her exudes motherly spirit. Her Excellency, Chief (Mrs.) Amina Titi Atiku Abubakar, the amiable wife of Nigeria's Vice President and The Second Lady of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, was born on June 6 1950 in the city of Lagos.
Educational Career
She started her educational career at St George's Girls Roman Catholic Primary School and St Mathias Catholic Girls Primary School, both in Lagos from 1957- 1965. She then proceeded to People's Girls High School Ibadan and St Mary's Catholic Grammar School, Iwo, Osun State between 1964-1969. She passed her School Certificate level in flying colours.
With her burning desire to further her education, she moved on to Kaduna Polytechnic between 1979 - 1981, where she finished with a National Diploma in Catering and Hotel Management, and then Higher National Diploma in the same field.
Professional Career
Chief (Mrs) Atiku Abubakar, just like all fresh graduates at that time, responded to the National call for service to the Nation in accordance with the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) and she served at the Capital School, Kaduna.
However, her zeal for patriotism and willingness to serve her country propelled her to take up a teaching appointment with her Alma Mata, the famous Kaduna Polytechnic, where she lectured for a decade. A dogged fighter who believes in professionalism, Chief (Mrs) Atiku Abubakar enrolled at the Scuola International de Scienze Turitiche, Roma, Italy to take a course in Hotel Management under the auspices of the World Tourism Organisation with the Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs in 1989. Chief (Mrs) Atiku Abubakar is a successful business woman, Executive Director of many business organisations and also an active member of her professional organisation.
Chief (Mrs) Atiku Abubakar has been married to Alhaji Atiku Abubakar, the Vice President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, for over three decades and blessed with four children, two girls and two boys. On assumption of office as the Vice President's wife in 1999, Her Excellency initiated and founded a Non-Governmental Organisation- WOMEN TRAFFICKING AND CHILD LABOUR ERADICATION FOUNDATION (WOTCLEF). An organisation with an ultimate GOAL - Crusade against the worst form of slavery.
