Idris Elba’s Beasts of No Nation Debuts in Nigeria – Find out why this is exciting!
Beasts of No Nation Debuts in Nigeria
When I heard Idris Elba was in Nigeria promoting his Netflix Movie Beasts of No Nation, I felt a slight pang of jealousy for those who would get to see the movie in his presence. Not because I have not seen the film (saw it on Netflix the week it was released), but because I would have loved to pick his brain a bit about how he prepared for that role. He did such a great job, the entire week after I watched it, I found myself mimicking his accent while talking. Funny huh? I am a huge fan of Idris Elba and Beasts of No Nation reminded me why. He is such a versatile actor, not to mention super handsome.
Beasts of No Nation is an African war drama film directed by Cary Joji Fukunag. It isabout a young boy, Agu, played by this awesome child actor Abraham Attah, who got separated from his family due to a civil war in his country. He eventually got recruited to join a rebel team headed by “Commandant” played by Idris Elba. Agu quickly blended in with the group where he found himself doing a lot of bad and unmentionable things. Let me just say, Abraham Attah is a wonderful actor. He played that role so well I was convinced of the reality of his situation. Idris Elba’s character had me feeling a lot of mixed emotions. He was technically a bad guy but sort of a good guy? I found myself trying to place how I felt about him especially with the way he ended up. I do not think till today, I have been able to process where I place “Commandant”. The actor did such a wonderful job portraying this character, it left me feeling like he could take on any role and kill it – in a good way.
Without giving too much away I’ll say this, if you plan to watch Beasts of No Nation, you want to make sure you have enough pop corn and preferred movie snacks, take your pee break before the movie starts because you do not want to miss a thing. The movie will captivate you from start to finish. Although I wish it ended differently, it was still a good movie overall.
Nigerian Entertainment will be doing an official Review of the Movie and as you may guess from this post it may get nothing less than 4 stars. You can watch the trailer below. If you have not seen Beasts of No Nation, Please do. It is worth the watch.
