2015 Football Recap; Trophy Clinchers

Many Trophies were won in 2015 and here are the matches that ensured a trophy was sealed for different teams across the globe as football actions draw to a close for the year.

Chelsea vs Tottenham

In what was a repeat of the 2008 final, On the 1st of March 2015 Chelsea won the Capital one cup, their first trophy in Mourinho’s second spell and the 5th in the club’s history. A goal each for John Terry and Diego settled the tie 2-0, and the tone was set for a very successful season for Chelsea.

Bayern beat Hertha Berlin 1-0 on the 2th of April but had to put the champagne on ice until after second-placed Wolfsburg’s game the next day which Wolfsburg duly lost and were left 15points behind Bayern with 4 matches to go.

Juventus vs Sampdoria

Juventus won the Italian title for the 31st time on the 3rd of may, after Arturo Vidal’s first half strike saw Massimiliano Allegri’s side defeat Sampdoria 1-0.It was Juventus’ fourth league title in a row with as many games to spare.

Chelsea clinched their 3rd league title with Mourinho as Manager on 3rd of May with an Eden Hazard goal his 19th of the season, which meant Chelsea won the League with 3 games to spare.

Barcelona vs Athletico Madrid

Barcelona needed 3 points to claim their 23rd Liga title on the 18th of May and it was delivered courtesy of Lionel Messi’s winner.

Juventus vs Lazio

Juventus defeated Lazio 2-1 after extra time on the 20th of may whiH ensured they win the double and look towards the treble.

Barcelona vs Athletic Bilbao

Barcelona vs Athletic Bilbao

Barcelona claimed their 2nd trophy of the season beating Bilbao by 3 goals to one, Messi Solo effort in that game easily comes to mind. This was the match that set the tone for the treble leaving them focused for that Final showdown against Juve in Berlin.

Wolfsburg vs Borussia Dortmund

On the 30th of May, both teams were presented with the chance to get something out of the season and it was Wolfsburg that won the German cup final beating Dortmund 3-1.

Arsenal vs Aston Villa

It was the FA cup final on the 30th of May. Arsenal won the match 4–0 with goals from Theo Walcott, Alexis Sánchez, Per Mertesacker and Olivier Giroud, to win it back to back and for a record 12th for Arsenal.

Juventus vs Barcelona

On the 6th of June, the champions league final took place between Juventus and Barcelona both seeking the treble. Barcelona emerged victorious winning 3-1 and securing their 2nd treble in 6 years.

On the 20th of December, Barcelona secured the club world cup 3-0 through a Messi goal and a Suarez’s brace, making it 5 trophies in 2015.

It was the Uefa Super cup and Sevilla almost won, but Barcelona eventually showed them what a big club they are by winning 5-4 thanks to Pedro’s. Extra time winner.

Chelsea vs Arsenal

Arsenal beat Chelsea 1-0 to win the community shield, Wenger’s 1st win over Mourinho in 16 games. Chamberlain’s first half goal was enough to settle the tie.

Ivory coast vs Ghana

On the 9th of February, The Ivorians won the African cup of nations against Ghana beating the black stars 9-8 on penalties.

USA vs Japan

USA vs Japan

On the 5th of July the USA won their first World cup title since 1999 dethroning raining champions Japan 5-2.

  • Barcelona weren’t able to win the Spanish super cup and we’re well beaten to it by Atletic Bilbao. Am not emphasizing it because it was a 2 legged tie and highly surbodinate.
